Abilities

⯌ Weapons

Alex favors guns over most other forms of weapons and usually keeps at least two on his person at all times along with a small assortment of other weapons for closer combat (i.e. a garotte, brass knuckles, his grandfather's poison ring, etc.)

⯌ Animals

Alex has a love of animals that's best described as "Irwinian."

He has a doctorate in veterinary science and works in zoological research, specializing in reptiles and amphibians. Even without the educational background, his parents were active cryptozoologists and he's spent most of his life with rescued wildlife of one sort or another.

He knows animal body language and behavior well enough to usually judge what is and isn't safe to approach, and how to safely handle any number of deadly creature without hurting himself or the animal.

And yes, sometimes the larger charges in his care at the zoo are useful when bodies need to disappear. Crocodiles and alligator snapping turtles don't care who or what their lunch was.

Crow, his pet rescued Church Griffin and a colony of Aeslin Mice both live with him and make his life (and potentially scenes, if requested) more interesting.

⯌ Science/Medicine

He's not a medical doctor, but his knowledge of biology and the cryptid world means he does the occasional bit of first aid for the kind of person who can't risk a trip to the ER for one reason or another.

⯌ Telepathic Resistance

Thanks to some cryptid heritage he doesn't know he has, Alex is resistant to telepathic suggestion by jorlac/cuckoos. Presumably this applies to other forms of telepathic control but there's plenty of wiggle room if you've got ideas.

⯌ Unusual Luck

Thanks to the same cryptid bloodline, Alex has an uncanny knack for being in the right (or wrong) place when he's needed and pulling off the longest of shots. This backfires as often as it benefits him.

In D&D terms, he's at least twice as likely than most to have a critical success or failure when attempting something.

⯌ Family Connections

There's always someone back home to call if he absolutely needs something, be it information, supplies or backup. How that help arrives might not always go according to plan, but he does know he has support if he needs it.
